Dear Members,
I hope you all had a chance to relax and recharge over the summer! As we kick off this new school year, I know we’re going to have our share of ups and downs, but always remember—we’ve got your back. The union isn’t just an organization; it’s a community that stands with you, ready to help carry the weight we all face as educators. We’ve been working hard over the summer to elevate and strengthen our bargaining unit, and we’re ready to tackle whatever comes our way together.
Below are a few important updates.
- Appendix B Negotiations
The bargaining team met with the district throughout the summer and made significant progress. While we haven’t reached a final agreement yet, we’re hopeful to wrap up these negotiations soon. Both sides are eager to get this done ASAP, and we’re currently waiting for a response from the district on our latest counterproposal. Some of our key goals in these negotiations include:
- Increasing pay for all positions
- Raising the slot pay amount
- Expanding the number of slots in middle and high schools
- Implementing slot pay at the elementary level
- Recognizing Athletic Directors within Appendix B
- Committee Involvement
Committees are the backbone of our work as an organization, and several are open to all members. If you want to help move the association forward, this is a great way to get involved. We offer “committee incentives” for members who participate. We’ve budgeted $10,000 to help compensate members for their time, and we’re looking to increase this amount as new grant opportunities arise this year. - Sick Bank
The deadline to join the Sick Bank is September 13th. If you’d like to join or check your status, please connect with your building rep or reach out to Tawnie. This is a valuable negotiated benefit that can help prevent educators from going into unpaid status.
- Wild Island
Our annual Wild Island party is on September 7th! Please use the link to preorder your tickets. This will help expedite the entrance process!
- Meet Your WEA Board
You have an incredible team working hard to support you. Below is your 2024-2025 WEA board, dedicated to serving you and our community. Remember, all the other board members are full-time educators in schools, so we truly understand the challenges you face. We’re here to support you and fight together!
Together we are stronger,
Calen Evans
