Good evening WEA members,

We just attended a meeting with Interim Superintendent Dr. Kristen McNeill, various WCSD representatives, and other Association leaders regarding the school closures. There are many decisions being made based upon Health Guidelines at the local, state and national level which are out of WCSD’s control.  The best way to get the most up-to-date information is to visit the WCSD website.

Here’s what we do know:
1. Pay and benefits (including insurance) for members of our bargaining unit (teachers, counselors, nurses, SLP, librarians and deans) will not be impacted.  More information will be sent out by WCSD shortly.
2. The district is working on how to implement a digital, at home learning component for the week of March 30th through April 3rd. More information on this will also be sent out shortly by the district. Our Incline schools will be starting the at home learning March 23.
3.  For our kids needing food, WCSD is working with Boys & Girls Club and Northern Nevada Food Bank. The location of the different pick up areas is on the attached pdf. 2020 Kids Cafe Spring Break

We realize there are many questions and few answers, but more information will be sent out as decisions are made.  At this time our concentration is on the health of our community (our members, their families and students) and the pay/benefits for our members.

Due to the recommendation of Reno Mayor Hilary Schieve today of closing nonessential businesses, the WEA office will remain closed next week. We will, however, continue to check our emails and phone messages.  Please continue to check your email as well as the WEA’s Facebook for more information.

Thank you for understanding and please stay safe.

In solidarity,

Natha & Tom
