Reduce Class Sizes & Caseloads
Large class sizes and overwhelming caseloads make it harder for educators to give students the individual attention and support they need. Teachers have less time with each student, while counselors and social workers are stretched across increasingly large numbers of students. Ultimately, that impacts student learning, access to support, and the ability to identify and address challenges early.
WEA is bringing forward legislation during the 2027 Legislative Session to directly address these issues. Our priorities include securing targeted state funding to reduce K–3 class sizes toward state-recommended ratios, making class size a mandatory subject of collective bargaining, and increasing funding for school counselors and social workers to move caseloads toward national guidelines. Locally, we will continue pushing WCSD to make class size and caseload reduction a greater priority in its budget and staffing decisions.
