Attendance Culture

Getting students to school consistently is critical to their academic success and connection to their school community. WEA is advocating for stronger attendance expectations while also ensuring students and families receive support before chronic absenteeism becomes more difficult to address.

Our work includes bringing forward state legislation centered on a 90% attendance expectation with greater accountability for students and parents, advocating for WCSD to establish a meaningful attendance policy regardless of state legislative action, and supporting the expansion of re-engagement efforts that connect directly with students and families when attendance begins to decline.

Improving attendance will require clear expectations, greater accountability, and earlier intervention to help keep students connected to school and learning
