Candidate Endorsement Process

Why do we recommend candidates?

It’s vital that we have true champions of education at both the state and local level, who fight and advocate for policies that will support our schools, our students, and our profession.

Who decides?

For local races, the recommendation of the candidates comes from the WEA Government Relations Committee. After the GR committee reviews the questionnaire and conducts interviews, a recommendation is made to the WEA board and then voted on. The GR committee is open to ALL WEA members NSEA encourages local affiliates to collaborate on these races.

For open legislative races the local TIP coordinating council interviews and makes recommendations to NSEA for consideration. The local TIP coordinating council is comprised of members from all the local affiliate associations (WEA, WESP, WREA, & Aspiring Educators).

What are the issues we consider?
