As most of you know, the Superintendent search has be re-opened. Of the six finalists that the Trustees were planning on interviewing, two dropped out before they came to Reno. Of the four remaining, one dropped out after the interview, and the board chose to visit one school district. Before plans could be made to visit Dr. Heatley in Chino Valley, he also withdrew. The trustees met on the May 5th, and decided to re-open the application process until June 1st. Several board members voiced concern regarding the salary offered to the candidate, indicating that WCSD needed to be competitive in order to attract the best candidate. There was also discussion of looking into the possibility of an interim superintendent. The association went to the table and suggested that an interim might be the wisest decision-realizing that we wanted to be competitive, but the budget situation for the upcoming year might preclude that course of action. The board voted to proceed with opening the process. They will meet in June to look over the applications and decide which candidates to bring into Reno for an interview. Be assured that WEA will be at all meetings.
